New options are now available for duplicating existing scripts, moving and renaming scripts and folders, plus some polish to visuals and navigation. Get started with Script Manager today.
When we launched Script Manager, the goal was simple: give your Groovy scripts a proper home inside Jira Cloud. No more hunting through chat threads, desktop folders, or files named final_final_really.groovy. Scattered scripts slow teams down. Now, all your scripts are easy to locate and use from a single place.
Script Manager is an evolving feature, built based on your feedback. These latest updates have brought more highly-requested features and improvements, so you can enjoy greater flexibility, better organisation, and faster iteration, knowing there's no disruption to the automations you rely on.
Whether you're managing a handful of scripts or a sprawling library across dozens of projects, these updates give you the structure and flexibility to keep everything exactly where it should be.
Changes at a glance:
- Move and rename folders: Restructure your folder hierarchy safely, with all nested scripts and references updated automatically.
- Move and rename individual scripts: Relocate any script to a better-suited folder as your projects evolve, with built-in conflict detection.
- Duplicate scripts: Clone any script in one click, with an auto-generated name and a one-click undo option.
- Unsaved changes protection: Receive a warning before you lose in-editor work when renaming scripts or navigating to another screen.
- Refreshed UI icons: Clearer menu icons that make every action easier to find and understand.
What's new in Script Manager?
1. Move and rename folders
Your automation library grows fast. The organisational structure you put in place last year might not be working out so well today.
Folders in Script Manager now behave exactly as you'd expect from a modern file system. You can freely move and rename folders as needed, and everything inside—scripts, subfolders, registry entries—will update automatically and continue working. No broken references or manual cleanup required. There's also built-in guardrails, so you can't accidentally move a folder into itself or one of its own subfolders (we've all made that kind of mistake at 4pm on a Friday!).
2. Move and rename individual scripts
Scripts evolve, and a quick experiment that started in a scratch folder might turn into a production-grade post-function. Now you can move scripts to wherever they actually belong, without recreating them.
From the right-click menu, you can move any script to a different folder and it will continue functioning exactly as before. Your folder structure can evolve alongside your projects while the platform handles everything behind the scenes. Plus, the move flow is clear—it'll flag any name conflicts at the destination before you commit, so there are no nasty surprises.
3. Duplicate existing scripts
Need a new script that is a slight variation on an existing script? Now you can clone it. The new Duplicate feature creates an instant copy and even auto-generates a sensible name, like MyScript_Copy, MyScript_Copy1, etc. After your script has been generated, you can drop straight into the editor with the name field ready to go—plus there's a one-click Undo banner in case you change your mind.
4. Unsaved changes protection
Renaming a script mid-edit? Script Manager now helps safeguard your in-editor changes. If you start editing a script and then try to rename it or navigate away, you’ll see a warning before anything is lost. This extra layer of protection lets you work more confidently, knowing there's less chance of accidentally losing an hour of work because you clicked on the wrong thing.
5. UI and navigation improvements
Finally, Script Manager has had some visual polish and improvements to the in-app navigation so you can find what you need faster. Actions are clearer, menus are more intuitive, and everything works smoothly regardless of your screen size. Whether you're a long-time user or new to ScriptRunner, these changes make it easier to navigate and use the full range of tools now available.
Try it now
